It seems the “shoulds” and “should nots” change every other day: artificial sweeteners are good, wait, no, they’re bad. Only eat low-fat foods, no wait, low-fat is bad. It can be confusing and overwhelming. And if you have been trying to lose weight for a long time, it’s tempting to fall for the latest buzz on diets. The diet darling at the moment is the ketogenic diet. In the article Pros and Cons of the Ketogenic Diet, Krista Hillis breaks down the specific benefits and pitfalls. For the most part, I agree with most of what she reports—especially the point that there is no magic bullet, no fast, easy fix. Once you look at your choices as a means to a healthier lifestyle and accept that time is your friend not your enemy, you’ll hopefully be more motivated to at least adopt the 80/20 rule—make healthier choices 80% of the time. Move. Eat clean. Practice gratitude. These aren’t trends and they’re within your control.
