My breaking point was realizing that on the first weekend of December I was feeling behind because I didn't have my Christmas tree up and decorated and my cards were addressed but not sent! I have a December birthday and remember my mom waiting until after the 14th to put up the tree. Now, Christmas decorations crowd out Halloween and Thanksgiving and the music starts playing soon after Halloween! Thanksgiving is almost an afterthought for many and now revolves around shopping more than counting blessings and family time. The article "There's No Such Thing As Being Behind" by Katie Northrup really helped me gain perspective. I am right on course for MY timetable as a busy small business owner at an age (60!) where I no longer have unlimited energy. So, the next time you're worried about being behind in your career, buying a house, having kids, decorating for a holiday--breathe and just be. We can choose not to compare ourselves with someone else's idea of the right timing. Be in the moment. Be present in the life you have now. And celebrate you and your unique timing for your life! How are you struggling with feeling behind?
